Syven aims to create dark, heavy, primordial and even shamanistic music, where the driving force is the traditional Finnish string instrument, the kantele, accompanied by atmospheric synth layering, ritualistic percussion and heavy distortion where appropriate. We also employ a variety of vocals that range from low male choirs to growls to chanting and to shamanistic performances, all of which help bring life to the comprehensive themes of nature, the struggles of reality, the brutality of survival, but also the wonderment and the solemness that lie therein.

The themes of "Corpus Christi": The introduction in Latin, "Ploratio" is dark, sorrowful and sacral, lamenting the passing of the great king. The second movement "Corpus Christi" which may refer to the "Fisher King" of Arthurian legend of the crucifixion of Christ. "Renascentia" starts with a prayer of penitence and continues with a whispered poem that tells of a journey from the ancient Celtic land of Lyonesse and shamanic initiation. The fourth part is Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina’s sacred chant, "Crucem sanctam subiit" from a 12th century manuscript discovered in Jerusalem
